INSTRUCTIONS: LOUISIANA SALES TAX RETURN (Form R-1029)
A Louisana sales tax return must be submitted by every business in the state on the 20th of the month following the taxable period it concerns. This form R-1029 can be found on the website of the Louisiana Department of Revenue.
Louisiana Sales Tax Return R-1029 Step 1: At the top left hand corner of the form, enter the address of your business.
Louisiana Sales Tax Return R-1029 Step 2: Enter your account number and address. Where indicated, enter the filing period this form concerns.
Louisiana Sales Tax Return R-1029 Step 3: Enter the NAICS number which describes your business.
Louisiana Sales Tax Return R-1029 Step 4: On line one, enter your total sales of tangible personal property. On line two, give the cost of all personal tangible personal property. On line three, give the total proceeds from all leases, rentals and services other than those of motor vehicles. Enter the total of lines one through three on line four.
Louisiana Sales Tax Return R-1029 Step 5: Skip to the second page and complete Schedule A. This section requires you to itemize all allowable deductions. Follow the calculation instructions and transfer the total from line 34 on page two to line five of page one.
Louisiana Sales Tax Return R-1029 Step 6: Subtract line five from line four to determine your taxable amount of proceeds. Enter this on line six.
Louisiana Sales Tax Return R-1029 Step 7: Multiply line six by 4% to determine the tax due. Enter this on line seven.
Louisiana Sales Tax Return R-1029 Step 8: On line eight, enter any excess state sales tax collected. Do not include local sales tax. Add lines seven and eight. Enter the total on line nine.
Louisiana Sales Tax Return R-1029 Step 9: If you are filing this form on time, multiply line nine by 1.1% to determine your vendor's compensation credit. Enter this on line 10. Subtract line 10 from line nine to determine your gross tax due. Enter this on line 11.
Louisiana Sales Tax Return R-1029 Step 10: Lines 12 through 15 concern additional computations if you have a register programming credit, wish to donate to the Louisiana Military Family Assistance Fund, or are filing late and need to pay interest and a penalty fee. If you have overpaid, follow the instructions on line 17.
