INSTRUCTIONS: VIRGINIA AUTOMATIC EXTENSION PAYMENT 2011 (Form 760IP)

Virginia individuals or spouses filing jointly who are unable to complete their tax return by the due date are automatically granted an extension by the state. However, you must submit form 760IP in order for the state not to assess penalties and interest. This form must be submitted with a payment and does not constitute an extension to submit this payment. Alternately, you may make an online payment without filing this document. The form is available on the website of the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Taxation. This article discusses the form submitted for tax year 2011.

Virginia Automatic Extension Payment 2011 760IP Step 1: Complete the worksheet on the back side of the page first. On line 1, enter the amount of tax you expect to owe.

Virginia Automatic Extension Payment 2011 760IP Step 3: On line 2b, enter your estimated tax payments already made.

Virginia Automatic Extension Payment 2011 760IP Step 5: On line 3, add lines 2a, 2b and 2c. On line 4, subtract line 3 from line 1 to determine your total balance due.
