INSTRUCTIONS: TEXAS SALES AND USE TAX RETURN (SHORT FORM) (Form 01-117)

If you are a Texas business owner, you may file a short form sales and use tax return with the state if you only have one location in Texas, only report applicable taxes to the areas in which you are operating, do not prepay state or local taxes, do not have credit from tax overpayment from previous years and do not have custom broker forms to report. This form 01-117 is available on the website of the Texas comptroller.

Texas Sales And Use Tax Return (Short Form) 01-117 Step 1: This is a two-page document. Detach the bottom half of page one. This is all that must be returned to the office of the state comptroller.

Texas Sales And Use Tax Return (Short Form) 01-117 Step 2: In section c, give your taxpayer number.

Texas Sales And Use Tax Return (Short Form) 01-117 Step 7: In section 4, add sections 2 and 3 to determine the total amount subject to tax. In section 5, multiply section 4 by the combined state and local tax rate.

Texas Sales And Use Tax Return (Short Form) 01-117 Step 8: If filing on or before your due date, multiply your tax due by .005 to determine your timely filing discount in section 6. Note prior payments in section 7. Subtract lines 6 and 7 from line 5 to determine your net tax due in section 8.
