INSTRUCTIONS: RHODE ISLAND CLAIM FOR REFUND SALES OR USE TAX
Rhode Island residents or businesses may file an application seeking a refund for sales or use taxes paid related to automobile claims or certain other claims. This form is found on the website of the Rhode Island Department of Revenue. Type or hand print your responses to the form.

The second page of this form notes that if you are applying for a refund related to an automobile, you must include a copy of the registration form documenting the tax paid, a copy of the bill of sale, a copy of the use tax return, a copy of the buy-back contract (if the motor vehicle was purchased back), a copy of the check used in this transaction, and copies of any complaints filed with the attorney general's office, the motor vehicle dealer's commission or the Better Business Bureau.
