INSTRUCTIONS: PENNSYLVANIA SCHEDULE A/B

A Pennsylvania Schedule A must be completed if you sold a home that you owned and paid property tax on and then purchased another home on which you paid property tax in the same year to determine your eligibility for a property tax rebate on your old home. A Pennsylvania Schedule B must be completed by a widow or widower who remarried to determine the size of their property tax or rental rebate, which can only be applied to the period prior to their marriage. Both forms are located on the same page and are discussed in this article.

Pennsylvania Schedule A/B Step 1: Enter your name and Social Security number at the top of the page.

Pennsylvania Schedule A/B Step 2: On the top portion for Schedule A, enter the address of the home which you sold.

Pennsylvania Schedule A/B Step 3: On the right, give the starting and ending dates for your residence in this old house.

Pennsylvania Schedule A/B Step 4: Below this, enter the address of your new house. give the date on which you moved into your new house and the end date, which will be the end of the year in question.

Pennsylvania Schedule A/B Step 5: On line one, give the property taxes paid on both houses in their respective columns.

Pennsylvania Schedule A/B Step 6: On line two, give the number of months you lived in both houses in their respective columns.

Pennsylvania Schedule A/B Step 7: Use the chart just below to determine what percentage of the year you spent in each house. Enter these percents on line three.

Pennsylvania Schedule A/B Step 8: Multiply line three by line one and enter the result on line four. Add both columns on line four and enter it on line five.

Pennsylvania Schedule A/B Step 9: If completing schedule B, give the date of your remarriage.

Pennsylvania Schedule A/B Step 10: On line one, give your total property tax paid for the year in question. On line two, give the number of months you were a widow or widower.

Pennsylvania Schedule A/B Step 11: Use the chart used for Schedule A to determine the percentage of the year you were a widower or widow. Multiply line one by line three. eEnter the result in line four.
