In any New York city, town or village other than New York City which has adopted section 485-a of the state's real property tax law, business owners who convert a non-residential property into a property with mixed residential and commercial uses may apply for a 12-year property tax exemption. If approved, taxes will not be paid for the first eight years, after which the percentage of exemption will decrease until regular property taxes must be paid. The form can be found on the website of the state's tax department.
