INSTRUCTIONS: MISSOURI PROPERTY TAX CREDIT CLAIM (Form MO-PTC)
Missouri residents who are senior citizens aged 65 or greater, disabled completely, disabled complete because of military service, and survivors of spouses who are 60 years or older and receiving benefits may file a form MO-PTC with the state's Department of Revenue to receive a property tax credit. This can be filed singly or jointly with your spouse.
Missouri Property Tax Credit Claim MO-PTC Step 1: Enter your name, address, telephone number and Social Security number. If filing jointly, include the same information concerning your spouse.
Missouri Property Tax Credit Claim MO-PTC Step 2: In the section labeled "Qualifications," put a check mark next to the statement describing your eligibility for this tax credit. If you are filing as a disabled veteran, include the letter certifying your status from the Department of Veterans Affairs. If disabled otherwise or the aged 60 or older survivor of a spouse, attach a copy of form SSA-1099. The disabled may include instead a copy of the certifying letter from the Social Security Administration.
Missouri Property Tax Credit Claim MO-PTC Step 3: Indicate your filing status (single, married and filing combined, married and living separately) with a check mark. Detail your income as instructed in the section labeled "Household Income." Note of all federal and state tax returns that you must attach copies of.
Missouri Property Tax Credit Claim MO-PTC Step 4: The next section concerns your real estate tax or rent paid. If you are a renter, you must also complete the certificate of rent paid for the previous year. Note that if the entity from which you rent does not pay property tax, you are not eligible for this credit.
Missouri Property Tax Credit Claim MO-PTC Step 5: Use the chart on pages 13 to 15 of the instructions to determine which credits you are allowed. Enter the total on line 12.
Missouri Property Tax Credit Claim MO-PTC Step 6: If you wish for your refund to be directly deposited, enter your routing number and bank account number. Indicate with a check mark whether this is a savings or checking account.
Missouri Property Tax Credit Claim MO-PTC Step 7: Sign and date the form. Your spouse, if filing jointly, must do the same. If a paid preparer has completed this form, they must sign, give their identification number and provide their address.
