INSTRUCTIONS: MINNESOTA 2011 PROPERTY TAX REFUND (Form M1PR)
Minnesota residents may apply for a property tax refund by filing a form M1PR. This article discusses the form concerning the 2011 tax year, found on the website of the Minnesota Department of Revenue.
Minnesota 2011 Property Tax Refund M1PR Step 1: Give your name, address, date of birth and Social Security number at the top of the page, as well as that of your spouse if applicable. Indicate with an X whether you are a renter, homeowner, nursing home or adult foster care resident, or a mobile home owner.
Minnesota 2011 Property Tax Refund M1PR Step 2: Enter your federal gross adjusted income on line 1. This value should be transferred from your federal income tax return. On line 2, give the total of your nontaxable Social Security or railroad retirement benefits. On line 3, enter the total paid to an IRA or other private retirement fund.
Minnesota 2011 Property Tax Refund M1PR Step 3: Enter the total of all public benefits on line 4 and any additional nontaxable income on line 5. Add lines 1 through 5 and enter the total on line 6.
Minnesota 2011 Property Tax Refund M1PR Step 4: Refer to the M1PR instruction booklet, which is also found on the website of the Minnesota Department of Revenue, to complete your subtraction amount on line 7. Enter the total number of dependants, and give their names and Social Security numbers. Indicate with an X whether you or your spouse is 65 or older or disabled.
Minnesota 2011 Property Tax Refund M1PR Step 5: Subtract line 7 from line 6. The result should be entered on line 8.
Minnesota 2011 Property Tax Refund M1PR Step 6: Renters should complete lines 9 and 10, as well as including a Certificate of Rent Paid.
Minnesota 2011 Property Tax Refund M1PR Step 7: Homeowners should complete lines 11 through 13. All applicants should complete lines 14 through 17. The property tax refund will be determined on the last line.
Minnesota 2011 Property Tax Refund M1PR Step 8: Consult the instruction booklet to see if you qualify for a special refund. If so, complete Schedule 1 on the second page.
Minnesota 2011 Property Tax Refund M1PR Step 9: Those who live in nursing homes, group homes, intermediate care facilities or adult foster care should complete Schedule 2.
