INSTRUCTIONS: GEORGIA APPLICATION FOR HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION

Georgia residents may apply for a partial or total exemption on property taxes on their primary homestead if they are the unremarried survivors of a military member, police officer firefighter killed the line of duty. Completely disabled veterans, as well as their unremarried surviving spouses, may also apply for this exemption. Some seniors age 62 and older may also be eligible for an exemption depending on their income. The restrictions are detailed on the actual application form, which can be found on the website of the Georgia Department of Revenue.

Georgia Application For Homestead Exemption Step 1: Section A begins by asking if you have received a homestead exemption for any other property for the current year.

Georgia Application For Homestead Exemption Step 2: Indicate with a check mark whether you and your spouse are residents of Georgia who are citizens or legal aliens. If a legal alien, provide your registration number.

Georgia Application For Homestead Exemption Step 3: Give the name, address, Social Security number and phone number of the applicant. Also give the county where you are expected to vote and the county in which your car is registered. If you file taxes jointly with your spouse, include their information here as well.

Georgia Application For Homestead Exemption Step 4: Questions 1 through 4 under Section A concern your eligibility for this exemption. Answer all questions with a check mark indicating yes or no. Seniors should check to make sure their income is within the listed limit for this program.

Georgia Application For Homestead Exemption Step 6: Give the date on which the property was purchased, the name of the person or entity from which it was purchased, the type of title held, the purchase price, the amount of the lien and to whom the lien is due.

Georgia Application For Homestead Exemption Step 7: Give the land lot number, land district number, the book and page in which your deed was recorded, and indicate if any part of the property is rented. If so, write how much.
