INSTRUCTIONS: MARYLAND CHILD SUPPORT GUIDELINES A (Form DR34)
Parents involved in a Maryland family court case may be required to complete a child support worksheet. This article discusses the worksheet to be completed in cases where only one parent has been granted physical custody of the child. The article is available on the website of the Maryland Judiciary.
Maryland Child Support Guidelines A DR34 Step 1: At the top of the page, enter the city or county in which you are appearing the case number you have been assigned.
Maryland Child Support Guidelines A DR34 Step 2: Enter the names, addresses and telephone numbers of both parents where directed.
Maryland Child Support Guidelines A DR34 Step 3: Enter the names and dates of birth of all children involved in this case.
Maryland Child Support Guidelines A DR34 Step 4: In section one, give both parents' gross monthly income and enter any alimony either is paying or receiving. Add or subtract alimony already paid or ordered to be paid in this case to create both spouses' monthly adjusted annual income in section two.
Maryland Child Support Guidelines A DR34 Step 5: Divide both parents' monthly income from line two by their combined income to determine their percentage share of income. Enter this in section three.
Maryland Child Support Guidelines A DR34 Step 6: Use Maryland's child support schedule to determine your basic obligation and enter this in section four. Total expenses as detailed in the five sub-sections.
Maryland Child Support Guidelines A DR34 Step 7: Total every number in section four to determine your total child support obligation. Enter this in section five, then multiply this result by the number from section three to determinen each parent's obligation.
Maryland Child Support Guidelines A DR34 Step 8: Add the expenses from sections 4A through 4E in section seven. Subtract this total from section six. This creates the recommended child support amount for each parent, which should be entered in section eight.
Maryland Child Support Guidelines A DR34 Step 9: Transfer the amount from section eight to section nine, but only for the non-custodial parent.
Maryland Child Support Guidelines A DR34 Step 10: Enter any miscellaneous information where indicated. The person preparing the document should sign and date it.
